DIAT invites SRF/JRF applications for three photonics research positions

DIAT's electronics and applied-physics departments are recruiting for a DRDO-sponsored photonics microwave-receiver project. The notice provides an SRF route with JRF appointments if suitable SRF candidates are unavailable; it should not be read as six separate vacancies.

Project and number of opportunities

DIAT's Electronics Engineering and Applied Physics departments invite applications for a DRDO-sponsored photonics electronic-warfare receiver project. The system covers a 0.5–30 GHz multiband range. The notice shows three SRF opportunities with JRF recruitment as a fallback if suitable SRF candidates are not available. These alternatives should not be read as six independent vacancies. The work combines photonics, microwave systems and digital signal processing rather than a generic software-engineering assignment.

SRF educational and experience routes

The SRF route accepts a first-division BE/BTech/MSc in the specified electronics, physics, applied-physics, optics, photonics or related electronics fields with NET/GATE, or an ME/MTech in the listed fields with first division at both graduate and postgraduate levels. At least two years of relevant research, teaching or industrial experience is mandatory for SRF. Applicants should read the notice's exact degree wording and document when the qualifying experience was gained.

JRF alternative

The JRF qualification routes follow the listed first-division BE/BTech/MSc with NET/GATE or first-division ME/MTech at graduate and postgraduate levels. The JRF entry does not carry the SRF's mandatory two-year experience condition. The advertisement also provides separate stipend rates for candidates without NET/GATE; applicants using that provision should confirm their eligibility route with DIAT instead of assuming that every listed degree or test requirement is waived.

Technical skills sought

Preferred knowledge includes RF and antennas, VHDL and peripheral interfaces, high-speed ADC/DAC interfaces and high-data-rate communications. Optical phenomena, ultrafast fibre lasers, nonlinear optics, computational physics and laser technology are also relevant. MATLAB, Python, COMSOL Multiphysics and Ansys Lumerical are named examples of useful simulation tools. Strong analytical ability, written and spoken English and computer skills complete the preferred profile; no candidate should claim experience with all these areas unless it is accurate.

Fellowship, age and duration

SRF remuneration is ₹42,000 plus 30% HRA, with ₹33,000 plus 30% HRA listed for the non-NET/GATE band. JRF remuneration is ₹37,000 plus 30% HRA in years one and two and ₹42,000 plus 30% HRA in year three; its non-NET/GATE band is ₹30,000 plus 30% HRA. The ordinary ages are 32 for SRF and 28 for JRF on 31 October 2026, with the notified relaxations. Tenure is three years or the project end, whichever is earlier.

Email application and closing-date caution

Send a signed brief biodata, prescribed application, date-of-birth proof, degree certificates and relevant marksheets as one PDF to rajesh_singh@diat.ac.in. Use the subject Application for SRF/JRF. DIAT's Careers listing gives 31 October as the closing date; the PDF itself expressly uses that date for age calculation without a separate closing-time sentence. Submit early and confirm any timing uncertainty with the project contact rather than assuming a midnight cut-off.

Interview and original records

Shortlisted candidates will be informed individually by email. DIAT may conduct the interview in person or by video conference. Original applications and supporting educational records, publications or project reports must be available at interview. No TA/DA is paid. A screening committee may prefer stronger relevant qualifications or experience when applications are numerous, and a selected fellow must be ready to join promptly after receiving the offer.

Practical preparation for this project

Application guidance: explain one relevant receiver, optical, simulation or digital-interface problem you solved, including your own contribution and test results. Connect that experience to the photonics-microwave project instead of listing unrelated technologies. Fellows are encouraged to seek PhD registration through DIAT's normal channels, but recruitment does not guarantee admission or permanent employment. Keep the department's interview communication and the official Careers page under review.
