Two regular Scientist-D streams
ICMR-NINE is recruiting one Scientist-D Medical and one Scientist-D Non-Medical under direct recruitment. Both are Level 12 regular scientific positions with all-India transfer liability under ICMR. The medical stream emphasizes non-communicable-disease epidemiology, public health and health systems; the non-medical stream highlights biostatistics and data sciences. These are experienced-researcher vacancies and are separate from NINE's one-year Young Professional recruitment.
Essential degrees
The Medical post requires MBBS or an equivalent qualification recognized by MCI/NMC. The Non-Medical post requires a recognized biomedical-sciences master's or PharmD recognized by UGC/PCI. An additional biomedical PhD is desirable for the non-medical route. For Medical, MD/MS or equivalent, MPH or a related biomedical PhD is desirable. A computing degree or any unrelated master's should not be assumed eligible merely because data science appears in the preferred work area.
Eight-year experience requirement
Both streams require eight years of qualifying experience. The notice gives PhD a four-year credit, MD/MS or equivalent three years and MVSc two years, subject to the stated proviso that acquiring the minimum essential qualification cannot be counted as experience. MPH, MTech and ME do not receive experience credit. Relevant biomedical R&D in government, public-sector or private institutions may count. Clearly separate professional work dates from educational periods when documenting eligibility.
Desirable research background
For Medical, the institute values experience in NCD epidemiology, public health and health systems. For Non-Medical, relevant biostatistics and data-science R&D are preferred. Application guidance: choose research evidence that demonstrates the actual contribution made, such as methods selected, analyses conducted, study coordination or interpretation of public-health findings. The vacancy notice gives broad scientific domains rather than a full daily duty roster, so do not infer a specific software stack or clinical practice schedule.
Pay and age
The salary scale is Pay Level 12, ₹78,800–2,09,200, with usual admissible ICMR allowances. That is a pay-matrix range rather than a fixed monthly take-home figure. The ordinary age ceiling is 45, subject to applicable government relaxation. Eligibility must be satisfied by the stated closing date. Candidates should assess age and experience together; possession of a desirable higher qualification does not automatically waive either condition.

Register accurate personal details, enter the relevant stream, complete the sections, upload evidence and finish payment where required. The notice does not accept an unsolicited offline form in place of online submission. Keep the final application printout and transaction record for future scrutiny and check the registered email/mobile details before final submission.
Fee and documentary evidence
A non-refundable ₹1,500 fee applies, with SC, ST, women, PwD and EWS applicants exempt. Use only the portal payment route. Qualification, specialization and experience evidence must be uploaded. Applicants employed in the specified government/PSU/research agencies must produce an employer NOC at personal discussion with the stated release undertaking. The portal's ability to receive an application does not replace later scrutiny of recognition, service dates and eligibility claims.
Selection method and application review
ICMR may use a computer-based MCQ test, interview or both. If used, the computer test assesses research-method understanding and is qualifying. Additional shortlisting may prefer stronger relevant experience or education when the eligible pool is large. Before applying, make an evidence table linking the exact degree route, eight-year calculation, research domain and uploaded certificate.
