Eight posts and how the intake is divided
Indian Institute of Geomagnetism advertisement 06/IIG/HRD/2026 combines three academic posts and five technical or administrative posts. The vacancies are Assistant Professor Grade-I Geology, Assistant Professor Grade-II Geology, Assistant Professor Grade-II Geophysics, Junior Superintendent, Stenographer Grade-I, Technical Assistant Electronics, Technical Assistant Library and Senior Administrative Assistant. Each has its own code, reservation and eligibility. Stenographer is a deputation appointment; applicants should not assume all eight are direct-recruitment opportunities.
Academic eligibility
Geology Assistant Professor Grade-I requires a geology master's with at least 60% or equivalent grade, a geology doctorate and a qualifying publication record, including at least two SCI-indexed papers with one as first author. Grade-II Geology requires the corresponding master's with 60% and three years of relevant post-master's research experience; a PhD is desirable. The Geophysics Grade-II route similarly requires a geophysics master's and three years' relevant research experience, with its notified disability reservation.
Electronics and library routes
Technical Assistant Electronics accepts BE/BTech Electronics, a bachelor's degree in Electronics with at least 55%, or the specified three-year Electronics diploma after Class 12 with at least 60%. Electronics-laboratory maintenance is desirable. The Library post requires a relevant Library Science, Information Science or Documentation Science professional bachelor's degree with at least 55%. Library automation and experience in a computerised environment are preferred. Check recognition and the diploma-entry conditions carefully before choosing a route.
Administration and deputation
Junior Superintendent requires graduation and at least four years of relevant administration work in the listed government, public-sector, autonomous or university organizations. The Stenographer Grade-I deputation route is for serving officers holding an analogous regular post or ten years of regular service in Level 4 or equivalent. Its deputation period is three years. Senior Administrative Assistant has a separate eligibility row that must be read in full; the degree requirements for another office post are not interchangeable.
Reservations, ages and pay
Several posts are earmarked for specific benchmark-disability categories: Geophysics, library and senior-administration seats include hard-of-hearing conditions, and Junior Superintendent has the listed locomotor-disability conditions. A qualifying benchmark disability is at least 40%, with competent-authority certification. Ordinary age ceilings vary: 40 for Grade-I, 35 for Grade-II, 32 for Junior Superintendent, 56 for Stenographer and 27 for Technical Assistant. Pay spans Levels 4–11; Technical Assistant is Level 5, ₹29,200–92,300. Apply the exact post's category and relaxation rules.
Online form and application fees
Use the IIG-linked Samarth portal and finish online submission by 10 November 2026 at 5 pm. Academic-post fees are ₹1,200 for UR/OBC/EWS/others and ₹1,000 for the listed female/SC/ST/PwBD/ex-servicemen group. The other listed posts use ₹900 and ₹700 respectively. These are reduced fees rather than a universal exemption. Pay through the portal's online route and preserve the receipt alongside the completed application.
Mandatory posted copy and records
A successful online submission must be followed by a hard copy with self-attested supporting documents, sent by Speed Post to Registrar IIG, Plot 5, Sector 18, Kalamboli Highway, New Panvel, Navi Mumbai 410218. It must reach by 16 November at 5 pm; dispatch alone is insufficient. Upload the prescribed educational, age, experience and category records online too. Government-service applicants must follow proper-channel/NOC requirements, and deputation applicants need the additional service and APAR clearances.
Selection cautions and preparation
IIG may use screening, written or skill tests and interview according to the post and application volume. The institute has not published one common examination scheme for all eight roles in this notice. Post code 102 is subject to the pending writ-petition outcome mentioned in the advertisement. Application guidance: build a post-code checklist and verify reservation first, then degrees, experience, fee, upload and postal completion; this prevents a technically complete application being sent against an unsuitable vacancy.
